Sanchita Pal

Sanchita Pal is one of the most accomplished Hindustani (North Indian) Classical and Semi-Classical singers resident in the UK. She was born in a musical family in India and has been living in Birmingham since 1994.

She began her musical career under the able guidance of eminent gurus Prof Prakity Majumdar, Dr Aradhana Dey, Pandit Amiya Ranjan Banerjee and Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. Sanchita excels in Khayal, Thumri, Bhajan, Nazrulgeeti and Ghazal. She collaborates with Jazz, Spanish Flamenco and Western Classical music (including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra) as well as in music scores for film, radio and television in the UK. She was a regular artiste on All India Radio. Her voice has been used in a number of documentaries including Hearing Voices (BBC Radio) and Afghan Women (Channel Four).

She performs across Europe and America and has been the recipient of several grants from the Arts Council of England.

On 21 January 2012, Sanchita released a CD recording of Thumris entitled Talash. This recording has been made possible with the blessings of Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. The recording was launched at Science City, Kolkata, India with the blessings of Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty and Ustad Zakir Hussain.
