Sanchita Pal is one of the most accomplished North Indian Classical vocal artists resident in the UK today. Born in India, she comes from a family with strong musical traditions and began her singing career at the age of five. Sanchita graduated in music, completed Sangeet Praveen from Prayag Sangeet Samity, Allahabad and is a Gold Medalist in Nazrul Geeti receiving Sangeet Bibhaker. Her musical heritage is of the Bishnupur Gharana. She has been a disciple of several renowned teachers, including the late Prof. Prakrity Mohan Mazumdar from Calcutta and is now a disciple of Sangeet Acharya Dr. Amiya Ranjan Banerjee. Sanchita has been an artist for All India Radio since 1989. She has performed extensively in India, the UK and Europe as a solo artist. She has also performed in collaboration with other classical musicians, professional Kathak dancers, and Indo-jazz fusion. She has been the recipient of performing grants from The Arts Council of England and has completed several national tours within the UK. She recorded a collection of semi-classical music called “A New Bouquet”. Sanchita is an established teacher of Indian Classical vocal music in her resident city of Birmingham. She is a lecturer in Indian Classical Music at the Birmingham Conservatoire (University of Central England) where she teaches the only degree course on this subject in Europe. |
